Botox

Botox is botulinum toxin type A. Botox (onabotulimum toxin A) is manufactured by Allergan.

Botox treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the effects facial wrinkles. Several examples include crow’s feet, worry lines, bunny lines or laugh lines. These are referred to as dynamic rhytids (wrinkles that occur with movement) and are treatable. Injection of Botox into the muscles that cause these dynamic rhytids produces a chemical denervation of the muscle, which can be thought of as relaxing the muscle.

Botox injections are performed without anesthesia because it is virtually painless. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects of Botox or Dysport will last about 3 months. Research has suggested, however, that long term use of the injections leads to a longer duration. Botox is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.

You may experience slight bruising around the areas of injection, however they quickly fade. Normal activities can be performed immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles, or in rare cases, an eyelid may droop.
